Cleft Rhinoplasty
Cleft rhinoplasty is a nose reconstructing procedure for individuals with an irregular shape of their nose attributable to cleft lip and cleft palate. Cleft rhinoplasty is much more complicated than a traditional rhinoplasty; therefore, it is crucial to find a highly-trained, highly-experienced doctor in cleft rhinoplasty before undergoing this procedure.
Infants born with a cleft lip and palate must often undergo significant modifications to their nasal structure and require a series of rhinoplasties. It is generally best to perform the initial rhinoplasty during infancy. The results obtained during this period often balance and harmonize the child’s face. An intermediate rhinoplasty is generally done prior to the child entering school between 4 and 6 years old so to re-harmonize the surgical alterations with the child’s growing face. A final rhinoplasty is usually performed between 14-16 years old on females and 16-18 years old on males, so to rebalance their nose and underlying nasal structure with their post-pubescent facial changes.

Our Cleft Rhinoplasty Process
Primary rhinoplasty refers to the first surgical procedure done to modify the shape, size, and/or position of the nose. It is indicated for patients who have never undergone rhinoplasty, and it can typically be performed on individuals above the age of 16.
There are many reasons why an individual may require a rhinoplasty. Many may seek an aesthetic balance to better harmonize their nose to their face, and other individuals may also suffer from nasal functional problems such as a deviated septum, hypertrophy of the turbinates, or other conditions that impair breathing.
The advantage of primary rhinoplasty is that in surgery, the separation of the nasal structures from each other is not hindered by scar tissue, so while still a very challenging procedure, it is far less complicated than a revision rhinoplasty.
